Face Breaker — Fuzz Distortion

The Face Breaker by Tone Ink is a fuzz distortion pedal that brings together the sonic DNA of the circuits that shaped the sound of ’60s and ’70s rock and classic metal.
Inspired by legendary tones and artists such as Hendrix, Page, Iommi, Gilmour, and Clapton, as well as iconic pedals like the Fuzz Face, Tone Bender, Big Muff, and Dallas Rangemaster, the Face Breaker delivers a wide palette of vintage distortion textures — all with a British touch.

It can serve as a treble booster, fuzz, classic distortion, or even an overdrive.
Versatile, dynamic, and organic, it rewards players who explore its nuances — a few knob tweaks can reveal the soul of legendary fuzz circuits.

🎛️ Controls

🔹 Plexi Switch
Sets the bass body and saturation of the circuit’s final transistor.

  • Plexi mode: tighter, more focused response.

  • Super Bass mode: fatter lows and a more “gated” texture.
Also compensates for low-output single-coil pickups.

🔹 Mid Switch
Shapes the Tone Stack curve.

  • Muff mode: behaves like the Ram’s Head ’75 tone stack, with the classic Big Muff mid-scoop.

  • Full mode: relatively flat response when the tone knob is centered, acting as a frequency seesaw.
Clockwise rotation boosts highs and cuts mids/lows; counterclockwise does the opposite.
This unique behavior creates a broad and unconventional tonal range.

🔹 PUNCH Switch (Face/Bender)
Engages an additional germanium transistor gain stage, enhancing harmonics and saturation.
Switches between:

  • the round, full-bodied tone of a Fuzz Face, and

  • the more aggressive, cutting tone of a Tone Bender.
Certain settings may produce octave-like effects with high-output pickups.

🔹 Gain Knob
Highly dynamic and responsive to playing and setting changes:

  • Near minimum: acts as a treble booster.

  • Before noon: produces a fuzzy overdrive.

  • After noon: increases distortion and bass, becoming gated when maxed — reminiscent of vintage fuzz circuits.
