Red Briton Black-out Edition
The Red Briton is Tone Ink’s new “Marshall in a box”: a drive pedal with responsive dynamics, ranging from a subtle overdrive to a powerful distortion. It’s engineered to deliver versatility, from less saturated tones that emulate the break-up point of a JTM45 to a more aggressive, venomous JCM800.
🎛️ Controls
🔘 PUNCH SWITCH
The three Punch voices (BB, Guv, Angry) provide simultaneous gain and bass adjustment in the distortion stage — effectively controlling how much the pedal “pushes” the circuit input and how much body the tone receives.
-
Guv: suited for lower tunings — moderates low-end at the input for clearer power chords.
-
Angry: great for solos or single-coil pickups that need more body and bite.
-
BB: features stronger mid cut, offering clarity at lower gain and recalling the classic Blues Breaker character.
🔘 COMP SWITCH
The three Comp positions define headroom and the texture of the distortion (post-gain) by changing clipping behavior. Sonically, they act similarly to a power attenuator on a tube amp: lowering overall volume while allowing greater saturation in gain stages.
-
100W: more headroom, higher output, less compression.
-
50W: intermediate setting.
-
25W: heavy compression, easy saturation, lower volume (compensate with the volume knob).
🔘 FULL EQ (BASS / MID / TREBLE)
Active EQ controls that boost and cut frequencies. The key is the mids: the mid-frequency was chosen to keep tone defined while enabling a pronounced scoop — useful for low tunings and for approaching the famed “Brown Sound” associated with Eddie Van Halen.
-
Cutting mids improves clarity in low tunings and aggressive rhythm parts.
-
Adding mids yields a more vintage tonal character and greater presence in the band mix.
